This is a workshop proposal for session three – coproducing solutions. NESTA and the new economics foundation have been working in partnership to: - define the principles underpinning coproduction, - showcase good examples of coproduction practice, - make the case for the value of coproduction and identify the key barriers to the diffusion of coproduction in public services. The result of this work, developed in close collaboration with a network of coproduction practitioners, is contained in 3 reports (http://www.nesta.org.uk/areas_of_work/public_services_lab/coproduction) . We are now embarking in a new phase of applied research on coproduction, which will try and address the barriers to the diffusion of coproduction, which we have identified. These have to do with the way services are commissioned; the inability to measure and communicate the value of coproduction in a language that resonates with commissioners; and the changes in skills and culture that coproduction requires of service professionals. NESTA and nef propose to hold a workshop where we will invite delegates to coproduce a solution to the problem “how do we measure the impact and value of coproduction?” This will be an interactive session aiming to build on delegates’ experience of coproduction in public services; their understanding of commissioning and reporting mechanisms and their academic knowledge of measurement tools and processes, in order to generate insights on the most appropriate ways of capturing and communicating the value of coproduction across different sectors.
